Digital risks – Frequent risks when adopting technological tools and processes

The Internet has changed our habits, the way we behave as a society. It has removed borders, connected everyone on the planet to each other, and allowed new forms of organization and collaboration among citizens.

But at the same time, it has also provided criminals with a new environment in which to operate, allowing anonymity and facilitating access for vulnerable people who may be harassed, robbed, deceived or extorted.

Knowing the digital risks

There are a number of frequent risks in adopting technological tools and processes.

Cyberbullying: Currently, 26% of bullying cases occur through YouTube, Tuenti, Facebook or Instagram networks have positioned themselves as platforms to quickly disseminate content, mockery and insults, new technologies have contributed to the dissemination of compromised images and videos, the victim’s personal information and the hacking of personal accounts. What has made bullying cases more violent and frequent.

Online gaming addiction: Unlimited access to online gaming platforms along with a population that has had a mobile phone before the age of 14 has caused the number of online players to multiply by three in just five years and the age of addiction has decreased. at 16 or 17 years of age.

Identity theft: Before the advent of the Internet, identity theft was a crime that was committed on a smaller scale. Today, criminals have access to a multitude of information about their victims, data that users themselves provide through social networks and web accounts.

Sexual content: sending sexual content or sexting is living its golden age thanks to new technologies and the emergence of instant messaging applications and social networks. In fact, it has become a common practice among adolescents from the age of 15 and more than half of young people have already practiced it.

Dangerous Contacts: The Internet enables pedophiles to approach millions of minors who are exposed online. It also allows them to impersonate other people or even children to approach their victims.

Content inappropriate for minors: Before the Internet, the main concern of parents was that their children did not watch any television, radio or magazine program that was not appropriate for their age. Now it is more difficult to control it, since the access they have to the devices from very young ages makes them liable to end up consuming inappropriate content for them.
