What is IELTS and what is it for?

If you need some extra help with the IELTS, consider these courses to produce great results for the exam.

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, the world’s proven English language test. IELTS was one of the pioneers of four skills English language testing over 21 years ago, and continues to set the standard for English language testing today.

IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 900 test centres and locations in over 130 countries. See http://www.ielts.org/.

IELTS certificates accredit the level of knowledge of English and are internationally recognized by thousands of universities, colleges, companies, organizations and government agencies. Last year, more than 3 million tests were conducted worldwide. IELTS is recognized as a safe, valid, and reliable indicator of the real ability to communicate in English for education, immigration, and professional accreditation.

What is the IELTS exam?

The IELTS exam assesses the level of international English, with no preference for British or American English. This feature, together with its international recognition and the fact that it can be done in almost any part of the world, makes its “international” name more than justified.

IELTS certifications are necessary to access the most important study, training and internship programs in the world.

They are also necessary for the issuance of an immigration visa in certain countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa.

But even if you just want to get a worldwide valid English Proficiency Certificate, there is nothing better than IELTS certification.

The IELTS Exam assesses four different areas of English language proficiency:

  • Listening Comprehension
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Written Expression
  • Oral Expression

Listening Comprehension

The first part of the IELTS exam lasts approximately 30 minutes. It involves listening to four short dialogues or monologues and answering 40 questions of various kinds (fill in the blanks, multiple answers, etc.) to verify your understanding.

Reading Comprehension

The Reading section takes about 60 minutes. It includes reading different fragments of articles and answering a series of different types of questions (true and false, short answers, multiple answers, etc.).

Written Expression

The writing test includes writing two texts of different length and style.

Oral Expression

The Speaking section is the last part of the IELTS Test. In the Oral Expression test it is necessary to demonstrate knowing the exact subject and to relate to the examiner and another student.

To start preparing this exam, it is recommended to have at least an intermediate level. Otherwise, the grade to be obtained would be too low and the exam would not serve to improve our CV or to exceed the requirement of the institution in question.

The English Partner Pro courses enable students to optionally take this test, and the higher level courses are designed to give you the skills required to successfully pass the IELTS test.
